9 Universal Problems Old Souls Experience

Being an old soul means that you perceive life in a very different way from others. Often, this unique way of experiencing life comes with a range of issues. Are you struggling with any of the following issues as an old soul?

1.  YOU’RE A SOCIAL OUTCAST

As with anyone who perceives the world differently from others, Old Souls can experience a great (and unending) sense of isolation. Because you fail to fit into the standards that society admires and values (careers, materialism, status and so forth), you might be seen as strange, offbeat, and unconventional.

2.  YOU’RE THE “BLACK SHEEP”

While Old Souls can build many strong relationships with people, their penetrating ability to connect with the depths of the people in their lives can create many enemies. Seeing deeply into the core issues of the people around them, Old Souls feel an innate desire to be truthful, even if this means revealing uncomfortable truths such as the fact that many problems are caused by immaturity, or a failure to take responsibility.

Those who are willing to change will listen and like you, while the rest will feel great disdain towards you. This is why Old Souls often become the “devil's advocates” or “black sheep” of their friends or family.

3.  YOU OFTEN GET MISLABELED

Because of their different way of perceiving the world, Old Souls will often be given different labels, from “beatniks” to “hippies,” “anarchists” to “new age freaks.”

4.  YOU ARE PRONE TO INTENSE EXISTENTIAL CRISES

When a person realizes that everything is transitional and passing, life can start to seem pointless. Not only that, but as Old Souls we tend to see through the lies and illusions in society, making us feel like aliens on this planet. This sense of profound alienation can lead to what is known as an existential crisis in which we feel lost and alone.

5.  YOU EASILY BECOME EMOTIONALLY DRAINED

How many times have people unloaded all of their problems onto you, or pulled you into hour long emotionally-charged conversations. As a person who is insightful and patient, people often tend to use you as an emotional dumping ground, which can be exhausting, especially if you double as an empath.

6.  YOU’RE PRONE TO BECOMING MENTALLY DRAINED

Between acting as mediators between people and their problems, and our own search for truth and self-understanding, we are prone to experiencing constant fatigue. This mental fatigue causes us to struggle to keep up with the pace of society and feel tired all the time.

7.  YOU STRUGGLE TO FIND A KINDRED SPIRIT

If making friends who connect with you is difficult, finding a soulmate, or life partner, can be even more of a challenge.

8.  YOU’RE CRIPPLED BY POSSIBILITIES

As we grow in maturity our perception of possibilities and explanations expands: we see life from limitless angles. This means that we see more than one way of doing things which makes us unfailingly indecisive as we see the full expanse of possibilities, and the lack of absolutes. Although making decisions and judgements can be a crippling experience, this can double as a virtue, allowing us to understand that we can’t simply judge people by face value, and that they are the result of millions of internal and external influences.

9.  YOU YEARN FOR A PLACE TO BELONG

For some Old Souls, the world feels alien. We find it hard to understand people, why such chaos and misery exists, and how it is allowed and sometimes encouraged to continue. We long to find a place where we feel like we belong, a space filled with freedom and liberation. This is often why we feel like this world isn’t our true home.

If you can identify with these problems and feel like an old soul in this alien society, you might like to read our book Old Souls: The Sages and Mystics of Our World.

This book was written to help you gain more self-understanding to help you evolve into the awakened being you’re destined to become.
